Planning a Motorcycle Trip Through Sweden and Norway
Sweden and Norway together make one of the great motorcycle journeys in Europe — Swedish forests and gravel giving way to Norwegian fjords and mountain passes. Here is how to plan it.

Why combine Sweden and Norway
The two countries complement each other beautifully. Sweden offers long, flowing forest roads, graded gravel and a sense of space. Norway delivers the drama — fjords, switchback mountain passes and coastal ferries. Riding both in one trip gives you the full Scandinavian experience.
The border is open and uncomplicated for most travellers, but always carry your licence and ID, and check current entry rules before you travel.
Route ideas
A classic loop starts in Sweden, heads north through the forests, crosses into Norway, and returns via the Norwegian coast and ferries. You can ride this in 7 to 14 days depending on pace and how many stops you make.
If time is short, focus on the south: ride from Gothenburg or Stockholm west toward the Norwegian border, enjoy the fjords, and ferry back. If you have two weeks or more, push toward the Arctic and the northernmost roads.
Ferries, fuel and logistics
Norway’s coastal ferries are part of the adventure — and sometimes part of the only route. Check ferry schedules in advance, especially outside peak summer, and have a backup plan if weather closes a crossing.
Fuel is generally available but distances between stations can be long in the north. Keep an eye on your range, especially on gravel sections, and fill up when you can.
Rent a motorcycle for the trip
If you are flying in, rent an adventure motorcycle from a local owner through NORDIC RIDER and pick it up closer to your start point. An adventure bike that handles gravel comfortably is the ideal tool for a Sweden-and-Norway loop.
